This routine is a ritual, the words spoken by my benefactor, Life will always be a bitch so you might as well cast her body in plaster, Capture her curves ignore some of her words, Tell her she's the main course and not the hors d'oeurve, Things used to be mad, but now they're berserk, Not matter your name, you're always hard work We all were uncertain, so I pulled back the curtain, Time flies when it's tied to a kite Behind her curse is a beauty unsurpassed beyond my words, My endless dreams of redemption and rebirth, Are worth more than my weight in gold We all were uncertain, so I pulled back the curtain, Time flies when it's tied to a kite The witch doctor wrote out the prescription, To try to control my addiction, It said simply remove all temptation, contemplate and rejoice

I lost the key that hung from my neck, The one which opened up my painted chest, You cannot live without regret, She picked the lock to where my love was kept, Why must we all play by the same rules? Reality's a paradise that we choose, If you came to laugh then I'll be here to amuse, If you came to dance then you've got nothing to lose Underestimation was to blame, the creature ate the lion tamer, What waits around the corner, it takes no prisoners, But it will deliver us, deliver us from evil Any excuse for a constellation, The Queen of Amazonia's coronation, Trees of magnolia the whole celebration, She is draped in a dress this is only three stars, Oh well I find my redemption in the garden after midnight, Smoke mixes with the falling snow, Don't come outside father, I'd much rather be alone, Outside with the resurrected cat on the checkered patio Underestimation was to blame, the creature ate the lion tamer, What waits around the corner, it takes no prisoners, But it will deliver us, deliver us from evil Was it deliberate to deliver us?
3.
We want to drink the water, I'm sick of all the wine, There was never prohibition in your saviour's time, I've been working on commission, in King Solomon's mines, But who was to tell the snake was wrapped around the vine? When it rains it pours, it's not the weather I applaud, You leave me wanting more, not in a way I've ever felt before, Not in a way I've ever felt before I sat in the centre of the great, golden round table, They argued and they plotted like the brothers Cain and Abel, I have the right to be silent tonight, But you have the right to be violent, violent tonight When it rains it pours, it's not the weather I applaud, You leave me wanting more, not in a way I've ever felt before, Not in a way I've ever felt before

The Tapestry 04:01
Alone I went sailing, beyond the horizon, The old men they were wailing, away in the silence, I stole their boat, but they spoke of my kindness, We stayed afloat, despite all the madness The tapestry hung on the wall, on the wall, Captured our war, our war, But patience is a virtue I can no longer afford You were my desire, but the fire burned out my eyes, I'm starting to suit my current disguise, Despite the dispute, between the land and your skies, Separate were the wicked, the wise The tapestry hung on the wall, on the wall, Captured our war, our war, But patience is a virtue I can no longer afford Empty the plan for our love in the palm of my hand

REVIEWS:

"Newcastle’s Kobadelta continue to impress with this new single which sounds like the missing link between The Doors and Kasabian; chunky of riff and nicely frayed around the edges." - The Crack Magazine (October 2013)

"We’ve touched upon Kobadelta before, describing their sound back in June as ‘an onslaught of viscous, blues-ridden psychedelica’, ridden with brooding riffs and shimmering synths. They’re back 4 months later with another single and b-side, and it’s safe to say the tracks haven’t dampened our hype for the Newcastle five-piece. Ritual is factory fitted with an advance of domineering, bass-heavy rhythm and blues that gives way for a retrospective chorus, providing the perfect backdrop for a haunting vocal not too dissimilar to a young Michael Stipe, or a contemporary Tom Smith. Sounds like? Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at their most menacing… Underestimation is by no means a support act here either, with a threatening bassline hooking you like a run-of-the-mill trout from the off. The riffs here lay off the brood – the bassline covers that aspect by itself – and the synths shimmer like lighthouses on a desolate horizon. We’re very excited about this lot." - Reviewcaster (October 2013)

"Psychedelic Indie-Rockers, Kobadelta, kick out the jams on their edgy new single, ‘Ritual (Time Flies)’. It launches with a mighty fine riff which wouldn’t seem out of place in either tone or magnitude if it were to turn up on a Wolfmother LP. This tasty refrain underpins the whole song, giving the entire concoction a powerful drive and urgency. With bass, drums, guitar and synth all backing up lead singer, Dom Noble, the band have a good full sounding single on their hands. Noble’s eerie delivery gives them a real USP. Veering towards Bowie-esque crooning at times, it certainly suits the intriguingly experimental elements of the Newcastle five-piece. They draw similarities with Kasabian, but there’s a fascinating earthy growl to Kobadelta’s sound which will hopefully be explored further as the band write more tunes too. B-side, ‘Underestimation’, finds the band in a more playful, funky mood, and is definitely worth a spin as well. SPOILER ALERT: The tempo change ¾ of the way through is genius – from slow burning grungey number to crazy-party banger in one fell swoop. Absolutely lovely stuff. With ‘Ritual (Time Flies)’ out on Friday, Kobadelta aren't resting on their laurels either. Gigs are lined up at The Cluny, The Head of Steam, and Think Tank over the next month so if you like what you hear get down to one of the shows and support one of the most exciting indie acts around in the North East." - Tune Army (October 2013)

"Dirty guitars and bass lines in Kobadelta's new single Ritual recalls back to early Kasabian. The monotone vocals also add a dreary feel that sits well with the raw and pounding instrumentation. B-side Underestimation is more melodic and features a gradual build-up to the catchy chorus which you almost fall into when it kicks in. Definitely worth a listen..." - The Evening Chronicle (4th October 2013)

"Newcastle's favourite groove riders are back with their organ smothered, Doors on a down day rock and I, for one, am pretty chuffed about that. 'Ritual' sees the quintet marry the thunderous inevitability of Muse at their heaviest, Jim Morrison at his preachiest and the Black Keys at their sexiest. The result is a relentless, insistent tumult of riffs, bone rattling drums and the lingering sensation that if you let any young female listen to this they might just find themselves, 9 months later, giving birth to a black hearted baby. The B-side to this single, the wonderfully titled 'Underestimation', starts with a bass riff soaked in distortion before the shuffle of the Stone Roses-esque drums enter the room and the guitars buzzsaw in to join that fat ol' bassline. All this is then liberally slathered in Dom Noble's treacly and seductive vocals to provide what must surely be the soundtrack to a seedy bar scene in the next Tarantino film - this time starring Sam Rockwell, seriously the guy needs a starring role. As the song builds to a frenetic crescendo, I have to remind myself that this is just the B-side and question why this single was not considered a AA-side. Either way, these guys are proving their consistency so a full album must surely be the next logical step. Yes? Good. I thought so." - Listen With Monger (September 2013)

"Another proud moment for us as a former Band To Check Out come good with their new single. Newcastle five-piece Kobadelta have a new single called 'Ritual' available. It's a top tune, but we reckon the space-rock that they deliver on B-side 'Underestimation' is even better. This is exactly how we were hoping the band would develop." - The Sound Of Confusion (September 2013)

"Another of Newcastle’s finest, Kobadelta are a five piece psyche band from the North East and are here to tinge this kaleidoscopic genre with a little more black. They possess the uncanny ability to bring in all the surrealism of a Nick Cave nightmare to a predominantly rock sound, with QOSTA riffs, heavy toms and still manage to sound current and fresh. Dom Noble’s vocals have a real affiliation with Alex Turner‘s tone, and he shares another thing with the Arctic Monkey‘s frontman; he also has the same knack of storytelling. Especially heard in The Tapestry; a gloriously grey and thundering track that leads you through a dark and gritty tale with theatrical flair. The synths of Jordan Robson have the ability to cut through the humongous drums with their fading reverb that give the band their escapist sound. With their track When It Rains It Pours they use this synth as an extra textural layer to complete the blues filled, meaty sandwich Marley on bass provides. The Brothers Malliris, with Alex on guitar and Chris on drums, provide the core of the band’s style and produce an authentic rock sound which paints the perfect background for the detailing lyrics." - Far Out Magazine (July 2013)

"The single itself, 'When It Rains It Pours', is a seductive slab of rustic rock 'n' roll held together with rhythmic drums, gritty guitar hooks, kaleidoscopic synths and Dom's coarse Northern vocals layered over the top. In juxtaposition, b-side 'The tapestry' is a smoother and slicker track, acting as the antidote to the angst fuelled single." - NARC. Magazine (July 2013)

"Kobadelta's last single "When It Rains It Pours" received a hearty slap on the back in our last issue and with good reason as it is a supremely confident rocker of a decidedly wired and psyched nature; not foot to the floor stuff, but spinning off fractal guitar riffs which add up to an inner core of really frazzled blues. B-side “The Tapestry” is also worthy of note, a deliciously dark and moody growler which highlights the fact that this is a band that doesn’t have to go for your throat for it’s thrills, especially when your heart is available through subtler means." - The Crack Magazine (July 2013)

"Kobadelta come as no surprise at all. But what a pleasant no surprise they are! Why the lack of surprise? Well, firstly they're making psychedelic rock and have supported bands like Temples, and half the decent new bands in the UK are making psych-rock and have supported Temples. Secondly, ah yes, the UK. Or to be more specific, the north east of the UK. Newcastle to be precise. Now we won't get into debates about Newcastle, Sunderland, Teesside and which is best or any of that nonsense. You can all just bloody get along, yeah? Good. I've lost count of how many great new acts we've found in that area of the country over the last couple of years. So essentially, Kobadelta are stereotypical of the bands we've been writing about, but don't forget that we only really write about bands we like. They may have the current buzz genre and are from what should be the current buzz area (it is on here, whether NME ever get north of Birmingham is doubtful), but they have some good tunes to back the whole thing up. It's a deep and bluesy psych-rock that these five guys make. They've been around for a couple of years and a few older recordings are knocking about, but we'll concentrate on the new stuff. Take 'When It Rains It Pours'; the vocals are almost monotone for the verse, giving an ominous feel, not unlike early metal bands, but the hypnotic groove they lock into is far removed from that genre and they add more colour to the chorus. They sound confident and the songs sound big with some nifty guitar breaks. Another newie is 'The Tapestry' which has a spooky air about it yet is lighter in tone, shunning that metal and veering closer to classic power bands and the heavy-psych pioneers. It's no great surprise that the current darlings of the UK psych scene were happy to share a stage with this lot." - The Sound Of Confusion (June 2013)

"The new band out of Newcastle are Kobadelta, and we've got their even newer track "When It Rains It Pours" as our 'Track of the week' (later voted 'Track of the month'). You may remember this as a free download earlier last week, and we ended up loving so much we thought to share it with you all one more time! The synth infused track has hints of surf and alt-rock riffs reminiscent of Muse and Bloc Party. The bluesy phyc-rock sound has got them into a nice little corner of the 'Indie spectrum' and has even got them a dedicated fan-base. What's more is that the song is a free download, now I love bands that just want to set their music free like a bird, and Kobadelta have got all of their work on Soundcloud as a free download. They're a real testament to all of the other un-signed bands out there, hard work and dedication does pay off! They've recently supported Splashh (who we love) and are playing next month with fellow Geordies Bernaccia. You should really need to check them out as I can see them and other Newcastle bands breaking out within the next year, a mini-revival is on our hands!" - It's All Indie ('TRACK OF THE MONTH' June 2013)

"Kobadelta are a five-piece band from Newcastle and any fans of The Doors should be beating a path to their door forthwith. This is a monumental chunk of fired-up bluesy rock that has more rumble than a tropical storm. B-side 'The Tapestry' builds from quiet, steely intent to something nicely wired." - The Crack Magazine (June 2013)

"Amidst a cascade of shimmering synths and brooding riffs, Newcastle five-piece Kobadelta have burst onto our radar with an onslaught of viscous, blues-ridden psychedelia in the form of When It Rains It Pours. The latest addition to our Singles Bar is fresh out of my own back yard and oozes an intoxicating brand of rock ‘n’ roll, bringing to the boil a plethora of blues influences to create a conglomerate of heavy, methodical rock. Kobadelta have started to make waves this year thus far. They’ve shared the stage with some of the most promising outfits of 2013, Splashh, Popstrangers and Temples to name a few. This has undoubtedly contributed to the impressive refinement of their rhyolitic sound, and with When It Rains It Pours, a doomed motif is the nucleus of a seamless interaction between clean, pensive guitars and mammoth, bass-driven riffs. It’s extremely well constructed, and bipolarizes glimmers of optimism with downright lugubriousness. From the synths that shimmer from the outset to the hugely impressive bridge, where candidly strong vocals urge over a retrospective, clean guitar, When It Rains It Pours spreads like a fever. Tapestry is by no means a support act either, and acts as an equally integral part on the double A-Side. The chorus booms in a dungeon of distortion after a rhythmic groove and a pondering drumbeat lulls you into a false sense of security. Again, the vocal strength is clear, particularly in a desperate outro that showcases the tightness of the band through subtle guitar and synth licks and a brash, circular, bass-fuzzed riff. It has the capacity to hypnotize and pound simultaneously, and brings more influences into the fray. The Doors spring to mind, as do The Black Keys, but this seldom-heard sound is a motif that is 100% authentic. This is a very compelling arrangement, and worth keeping several tabs on. Watch this space!" - Reviewcaster (June 2013)

"Some bands do extremely well by wearing one very dominant influence not just on their sleeves but all over their suits. Take Oasis for example: they loved the Beatles and they weren't afraid to show it. I get the overwhelming sensation that the five lads behind Kobadelta are huge Black Rebel Motorcycle Club fans and, on this showing, that's no bad thing. Lead track 'When It Rains It Pours' is a slab of leather clad, dark haired, cigarette in mouth doom rock filth. The kind of tune that you wouldn't let anywhere near your daughter in case it impregnated her with a sneer and a slow wink. 'The Tapestry', however, has more subtlety to it and creates a slightly Jekyll and Hyde sensation to the two 'sides' of the single. The climax of this second song sees the band descending in to a Doors-esque pit of hellish feedback and too-wasted-to-care vocals that are just dripping in Mr Mojo Risin'. Some may say that these guys have a limited set of influences but, if you ask me, pinning your colours to a mast that is one half BRMC and one half the Doors is pretty damn cool. More please." - Listen With Monger (May 2013)

Kobadelta Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK

A five piece rock band from Newcastle dabbling in dark and heavy psych-tinged rock...

"Kobadelta are frantic and feral. This Newcastle-based five-piece have supported the likes of Splashh and Temples, but they're not quite as psychedelic as those bands, instead pushing a far more muscular, gnashing sound. Their second EP, 'Remain Distracted', is out now." - NME
